QR codes used in street art to promote indie music

Zoo Records, an independent CD store in Hong Kong, commissioned the craft of these beautiful street art designs to promote lesser-known artists that lack the marketing support of the big record labels.

‘The city is alive with sounds if you know where to look’ was the appropriate message posted along the animal visuals throughout the city. At a closer look, passersby could discover that the animals were made of dozens of QR codes, each one pointing to an alternative music band (songs and profiles). Once unveiled, the music lovers had the chance to buy the albums or share them online with friends.

Not surprisingly, results in terms of exposure and sales were outstanding. It won a Cannes Direct Gold Lion. Simple, cost-effective, really well crafted. Don’t you think?
